Boys & Girls Club of AmericaIn every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow, all while having fun. They truly are The Positive Place for Kids. North Coast Hockey LeagueCome visit us any Sunday for North Coast Hockey League games at the new Boys & Girls Club rink at Half Moon Bay High School! With a relatively lean police force, the department has maintained a strong commitment to community youth, with officers volunteering to provide gang prevention and dedicating time to tutoring programs weekly at the Cunha Middle School site. Sheriff’s Activities League (SAL)The Sheriff’s Activities League (SAL) provides school children opportunities in athletics, visual arts and performing arts, activities during after school hours and occasional weekends. Children participate in organized league play in street hockey, basketball, and soccer. Flag football teams and the Junior Giants program are also popular with the children. Surf ClubThe Middle school Surf Club was formed at the end of the school year. The club has 28 members, with about 17 belonging to the Surf Team that will be competing this winter against schools in Santa Cruz, Menlo Park and Atherton.
